Homemade Birthday Party Decorations
Overview
From reusing decorative items from past parties to making new decorations from common household items, making your own birthday decorations is a great choice if you're looking for an affordable, eco-friendly way to spruce up your home. To make your own birthday party decorations, follow these simple steps.
Step 1
Gather up your gift wrap. Cut out and tape together strips of wrapping paper to create a unique, quilt-like patterned tablecloth for the table where you'll be placing party food. A paper tablecloth will protect your table and make for easy cleanup.
Step 2
Use your computer to create banners or signs. Using a word processing program, design and print out personalized banners or signs to hang around the home. If you have kids, use a font that will allow your children to color in the lettering. You'll keep the kids busy and save computer ink.
Step 3
Make paper lanterns. Fill brown paper lunch bags halfway with sand and put candles in them. The glow will be awesome and the lanterns can be used to light a path to your door if the party is at night.
Step 4
Make use of Christmas lights. Colored lights can be used to decorate doorways, mantles and railings. Use white lights to create a more elegant look and colored lights for a fun look.
Step 5
Create handmade place settings. Use construction or decorative paper to create table place settings for your guests. Cut out 3-by-3-inch squares and fold them in half. Write each person's name on a card and add decorative swirls or stickers to create a finished look.
