Fun Date Ideas for Married Couples
Overview
Sometimes it's easy to lose sight of the passions held as single people, and just settle into a routine of the same old stuff all the time. When you pull it together for a date night, it's often the same routine even for that: dinner at a so-so restaurant, followed by a movie that may or may not be entertaining and then a sleepy ride home. It's time to stir up the romance by getting a little more creative and interactive with your married-couple dates.
Concert Featuring a Local Band
Step 1
Check out some of the local bands and concert venues. In bigger cities and urban areas, you will probably have a multitude to choose from. In smaller towns, you may not have as many choices, but chances are that if you ask around you will find out about those local gems. There are great musicians everywhere.
Step 2
Find a band that sounds interesting. If you and your spouse have very different musical tastes, then take turns picking the band. One week it can be something you enjoy (rockabilly?) and the next week it can be your spouse's pick (classical harpist?). You'll both be demonstrating love by taking turns honoring the other's preference.
Step 3
Learn more about what your spouse likes. Ask questions before, during, after the concert: What do you like about this music? What do you think about this musician's stage presence? What is your favorite song? When was the first time you heard this type of music? What did you like/not like about this concert?
Bookstore, Dessert and Coffee
Step 1
Hit your local bookstore, even if you're not a bookophile. Spend 15 or 20 minutes perusing, either together or separately. Bookstores usually carry magazines, journals, newspapers, stationary, gift items and, of course, books.
Step 2
Have an assignment. Each of you has to go find a book or magazine for him/herself and a book for the spouse. You can be funny or serious about the choices you make. Meet up at a table in the cafe, if the bookstore has one. If not, just specify a spot and show each other your choices.
Step 3
Set a theme for the night--poetry, biography, history, novel, short story, graphic novel, current events or whatever. Take as long as you like and when you're all booked out, go find dessert and coffee somewhere nearby.
A Long Hike in the Park
Step 1
Check the upcoming weather and your local state parks for the best days for a long hike. On a clear, not too hot day (spring and fall are the best seasons for a hike), plan an afternoon with your spouse.
Step 2
Pack up some bottles of water and snacks, a map of the hiking trail and local area, and get going. You might plan to do a trail that loops around, so you end up back where you started. Or you can plan to hike from one end of the park to another.
Step 3
Plan to meet up with friends at the ending point and get a ride back to your car or go out to grab a bite to eat together somewhere. Take along a camera on your hike and snap pictures of what you enjoy and of each other. Don't rush, just enjoy the time being outside and with each other.
